Surgery Went Well

I had a carpal tunnel operation performed on my left hand yesterday. The operation went well. The post-operative pain is something I'm learning to contend with. (I really wish my doctor had prescribed the percocet they gave me in the hospital. That was a really big help dealing with the pain). Sigh. Aside from that, all's well so far.

Carpal tunnel is a serious condition/syndrome lots of people are finding out they are susceptible to. In my case, I not only have carpal tunnel, but I also have a condition called focal dystonia (not to mention tendinitis and arthritis all in the same hand). The operation I had yesterday will hopefully alleviate, if not eliminate, my other issues.

So if I've got all that wrong with my hand, how have I been able to do my job, you ask? Easy. I use my other hand to pick up the slack while being careful not to over stress it, and I've been using speech recognition software. Comes in handy too since I'm also a writer. I use Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 (10 was just recently released) by Nuance. I reviewed the product a while back in an issue of Associates. I highly recommend the software for anyone. The software can also be purchased from a third party retailer.

So, since I'm stuck here at home recuperating, I tried to email my colleagues at work and give them an update. Would you believe the university email server has flagged my email as spam? No matter how many ways I worded it or how many times I changed the subject line, my email was either bouncing back or not being sent. So I'm going to call my super and tell her so she can pass the word.

Whoa, gotta call it quits, the medicine is kicking in.
