Recovery from Surgery Is Going Well

I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday. Aside from some postoperative discomfort, I had a rather relaxing break. I'm still not at work yet. I plan to resume my duties in that area on Monday, December 8. In the meantime, I've been keeping up with things by way of e-mail, the library wiki, and the library blog. Other than that, my time is been spent working on my homework assignments, my final project for class, and helping to entertain my niece and her newborn son who have temporarily moved in with us.

Today, I had my first postoperative visit to the doctor's office. It was supposed to of been this Thursday the fourth, but the doctor who performed the surgery has been out sick so I was seen by one of her partners. Good news is this that just came out and my incision looks fine. I'm still not allowed to get wet today. I can begin exposing my hand to water tomorrow.

Tomorrow is also the first day that I will begin rehabilitative hand therapy.

So in the mean time, the speech recognition software I use has become my second-best friend. As I've said before, I highly recommend speech recognition software for those that have problems typing due to medical issues. The software is not perfect and it can be a memory hog, which is oftentimes frustrating, but the alternative is prolonged injury or the danger of re-injury to your hand or whatever part of your appendages may be affected by keyboarding.

I'll be touching base with you from time to time. So take care and watch your stress levels -- it is holiday season.
